Santiago Maldonado Martinez, a 17-year-old resident of Shandon, California, tragically lost his life on March 7, 2021, under suspicious circumstances in Los Olivos. Initially, deputies from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on the 6200 block of Foxen Canyon Road. Upon arrival, they discovered that the vehicle had not been involved in a traffic collision, and Martinez, the sole occupant, was found deceased inside. This led authorities to investigate his death as a homicide.
The investigation revealed that Martinez had been murdered, prompting a thorough inquiry by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office. In July 2024, charges were brought against two suspects: Fabian Apolinar-Solano, 35, and Hilario Moreno Solano, 29. Fabian Apolinar-Solano was arrested and arraigned in Santa Maria Superior Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. He remains in custody with bail set at $4 million. Hilario Moreno Solano, however, remains at large with an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Both men are accused of using a firearm in the commission of Martinez's murder.
