Gladys Elizabeth 'Lizzy' Orosco, a 20-year-old resident of Riverside, California, tragically lost her life on July 22, 2021. On that fateful day, Riverside Police Officers responded to a call at approximately 4:16 p.m. regarding a shooting incident at a home located in the 3300 block of Eucalyptus Avenue in the Eastside neighborhood of Riverside. Upon arrival, officers discovered Lizzy suffering from a gunshot wound inside the residence.
Despite the efforts of paramedics from the Riverside Fire Department, Lizzy was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation quickly identified Lizzy's boyfriend, 19-year-old Fredi Lucero, as the primary suspect in her death. According to the preliminary findings, Lizzy and Fredi were living together and had been in a dating relationship. On the afternoon of July 22, an argument between the couple escalated, leading Fredi to produce a firearm and fatally shoot Lizzy. Following the shooting, Fredi fled the scene before the authorities arrived.
Law enforcement officers, with the assistance of bloodhounds and patrol units, launched an extensive search for Fredi. He was located a few hours later in the vicinity of Spruce Street and the 91 Freeway. The handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered near the scene, thanks to the efforts of officers canvassing the area for witnesses and additional surveillance footage.
Fredi Lucero was subsequently arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murder and the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is currently being held on $2 million bail. The investigation into Lizzy's death is ongoing, with detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Unit, Forensics Unit, Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner, and Riverside County District Attorney's Office all involved in the case. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
