Dillon Entler, a 31-year-old resident of Cabazon, California, was reported missing by his mother in late August 2021 after she was unable to reach him for several days. His disappearance quickly escalated into a homicide investigation when evidence suggested that he had likely been murdered. Entler's death was the result of a violent confrontation instigated by Richard Eugene Seevers, a 59-year-old probationer, and his accomplice, Frank Edward Mansfield, aged 49.
The motive behind the murder stemmed from a fabricated story by Seevers' girlfriend, Ashley Goodro, who falsely claimed that Entler had sexually assaulted her. This lie provoked Seevers into a rage, leading him to plot Entler's murder with Mansfield's assistance.
On the day of the murder, Mansfield lured Entler out of a friend's house under the pretext of having a conversation. Unbeknownst to Entler, Seevers was waiting outside with a firearm. When Entler emerged, Seevers confronted him about the alleged assault. The confrontation quickly escalated, and Seevers shot Entler multiple times, resulting in his death. The two men then transported Entler's body to an abandoned ranch in Poppet Flats, where they initially buried him. However, fearing that the body might be discovered due to nearby construction, they later exhumed and reburied it in a more remote location known as 'Dead Man's Corner' in Cabazon.
The investigation into Entler's disappearance and murder spanned two years, during which law enforcement gathered substantial evidence linking Seevers and Mansfield to the crime. Both men were arrested in August 2023 and charged with murder. Seevers was convicted of first-degree murder in June 2024 after a jury deliberated for two days. He is currently awaiting sentencing. Mansfield's case was severed from Seevers' due to a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation, and he remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings. Despite numerous efforts by law enforcement and volunteers, Entler's remains have yet to be located, adding a layer of tragedy to an already harrowing case.
