On August 12, 2022, the Placerville Police Department responded to a call from a concerned neighbor reporting a suspicious odor emanating from a home on Wilste Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of 35-year-old Joeseph James Ramey and his 57-year-old father, Joeseph Merrill Ramey. The initial investigation suggested that the incident was a murder-suicide, with Joeseph James Ramey allegedly shooting his father before taking his own life.
