David Luna, a 41-year-old security guard, tragically lost his life on December 8, 2022, in Visalia, California. Luna was working at the Green Olive bar when he was shot while attempting to break up a fight. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m., and upon arrival, officers found Luna deceased at the scene. He was known to his friends and colleagues as "Gator" and was a respected member of the La Raza Motorcycle Club.
The altercation that led to his death also resulted in another individual being injured and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into Luna's death revealed that the shooter was 22-year-old Angel Cazares from Lodi. Cazares managed to flee the country before authorities could apprehend him, with the assistance of his mother, Maria Bautista, and stepfather, Mario Bustos. Both Bautista and Bustos were arrested and charged with being accessories to homicide for their role in helping Cazares escape to Mexico. The Visalia Police Department has been actively pursuing leads and working to locate Cazares, who remains at large.
In the weeks following the shooting, the Visalia Police Department identified four persons of interest and released their photos to the public in an effort to gather more information. The community has been deeply affected by Luna's death, with friends, family, and colleagues expressing their grief and calling for justice. A GoFundMe account was established to help cover Luna's memorial expenses, and a memorial ride was organized by his motorcycle club to honor his memory.
The case has highlighted the challenges law enforcement faces in apprehending suspects who flee the country and the impact such tragedies have on the victims' families and communities. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to Luna's loved ones.
