On the evening of January 2, 2016, a promising life was tragically cut short in New Orleans. Myeshia McDaniels, a 22-year-old recent graduate of Dillard University, was fatally shot while sitting in her Nissan Altima in the 3700 block of Clio Street. The shooting occurred at approximately 9 p.m., marking the city's first homicide of the new year.

Myeshia, who had graduated with a degree in biology just months prior in May 2015, was remembered for her academic achievements and bright future. She was transported to a local hospital by private conveyance shortly after the shooting but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In the years following her death, Myeshia's family has continued to seek answers and justice. As of early 2019, the New Orleans Police Department had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with her murder. The case was reportedly moved to the cold case files, leaving her loved ones without closure.

The investigation into the death of Myeshia McDaniels remains open. Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting, and there has been no new information regarding potential suspects or arrests in the years since the incident. Her family continues to hope that someone will come forward with information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case.
