In the early morning hours of December 5, 2021, a dispute in a Long Island parking lot escalated into fatal violence, claiming the life of 28-year-old Jorge Mauricio Sevilla-Barrara of Farmingville, New York. The altercation occurred around 3 a.m. in the parking lot of the Tiffany Plaza Mall. Following the physical confrontation, Sevilla-Barrara was shot and was subsequently transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Two other individuals, aged 21 and 22, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of David Trent, a 19-year-old from Mastic Beach. Authorities identified Trent as a member of the 'No Fake Love' criminal street organization. According to prosecutors, Trent and several other gang members were involved in a confrontation with Sevilla-Barrara and his friends outside the Minx nightclub, which is now closed. The argument turned into a physical fight, during which Trent retrieved a gun from his car.
After the initial shooting, Trent and his associates reportedly kicked Sevilla-Barrara as he lay on the ground. Trent then stood over him and fired the fatal shot. As he and his accomplices fled the scene in a vehicle, Trent leaned out of a window and fired several more shots.
In September 2024, David Trent pleaded guilty to manslaughter and other related charges in Suffolk County Court for the death of Jorge Mauricio Sevilla-Barrara. As part of his plea, Trent also admitted his involvement in the carjacking and assault of a Lyft driver in April 2022.
