Deputy Sheriff David G. Livengood, aged 31, tragically lost his life on January 18, 1979, in Oakland, Maryland. Deputy Livengood was responding to a silent alarm at Davidson's Army-Navy Discount Store on Route 219 when he was shot and killed by two perpetrators. The incident occurred at approximately 5:25 AM, marking a somber moment in Garrett County's history as it was the first time a law enforcement officer had been murdered in the line of duty in the county.
