In a tragic turn of events on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, 54-year-old Brenda Sue Sines of Eglon, West Virginia, was found deceased in her vehicle, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound. The vehicle had crashed into an embankment on the 400 block of Garrett Highway, merely a thousand feet from the West Virginia state line.
Garrett County Sheriff's deputies and detectives responded to a report of a person wounded by a gunshot at approximately 3:30 p.m.
and discovered Sines inside the crashed vehicle. The investigation quickly led them to identify 69-year-old Steven Douglas Reall of Oakland, Maryland, as the suspect in her shooting.
Later that day, authorities located Reall's vehicle at a residence on Doc Bernard Road in the Pleasant Valley area. As deputies approached, they found Reall deceased inside the car from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The bodies of both Sines and Reall were transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies.
Further investigation revealed that Reall had been in Garrett County District Court on the very morning of the murder-suicide. He was responding to an interim peace order that had been served to him on the preceding Saturday. The peace order, which was ultimately dismissed by the court, had stipulated that Reall was not to contact or abuse the petitioner and to stay away from her home and workplace.
