On a quiet Monday morning in a suburban Lutherville-Timonium, Maryland neighborhood, the lives of three young children were irrevocably changed. On December 13, 2021, their mother, Levi Lee Williams, a 40-year-old Black female, was found deceased in her home on East Padonia Road. What unfolded was a tragic murder-suicide at the hands of her estranged husband, 49-year-old John Williams.
The harrowing discovery was made after police responded to a report of a disturbance at the residence.
Inside, they found both Levi and John Williams with fatal gunshot wounds. The investigation revealed that John Williams had shot his wife before taking his own life. The couple’s three children, ages 6, 9, and 11, were present in the house at the time of the incident. The tragedy was compounded by the fact that one of the children reportedly witnessed their father with the gun.
Levi's mother arrived at the home to take the children to school, only to be confronted with the horrific scene. The community and family were left in shock, remembering Levi as a vibrant and caring individual. In the wake of the tragedy, relatives stepped in to care for the now-orphaned children.
The investigation by the Baltimore County police focused on the circumstances of the murder-suicide, including how John Williams obtained the firearm used in the incident. As the case was classified as a murder-suicide, with the perpetrator deceased, there were no arrests to be made. The motive for the tragic event was not publicly released, but the incident highlighted the devastating impact of domestic violence.
