The incident occurred on the evening of December 29th on Dumesnil Avenue. Authorities were called to the scene to investigate what they believed was a violent end to a drug transaction.

According to police, two men had arranged to purchase drugs from Young, but their actual intention was to rob him. The search for the suspects extended beyond Kentucky, culminating in their discovery near Detroit by U.S. Marshals. The two men taken into custody were 23-year-old Billy Richardson and his alleged accomplice, Jerard Garrett. Richardson was charged with complicity to commit murder and robbery. Investigators determined that while Richardson was present and had provided transportation to Young's residence, he was not the one who pulled the trigger.
Jerard Garrett, who had a history of violent and drug-related crimes, was identified as the alleged shooter. He faced charges of murder and robbery for his role in the death of Jamie Young. Following their apprehension, both men were brought back to Louisville to face the charges against them. Richardson was held on a $200,000 bond, while Garrett was arraigned and his bond was set at a half-million dollars, full cash.
