In the early morning hours of Memorial Day, May 30, 2022, the life of 23-year-old Corey Lambert was cut short in a fatal shooting that shattered the quiet of a Bel Air, Maryland apartment complex. The male victim was discovered by Harford County Sheriff's Office deputies around 5:30 a.m. inside an apartment on North Fountain Green Road, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation swiftly led to the identification of a suspect, Milton Mondowney III, a 31-year-old man from
Rosedale. He was taken into custody in Baltimore a mere 12 hours after the shooting. Initial reports from the sheriff's office indicated that the tragic incident stemmed from a dispute between Mondowney and Lambert. Further details emerged suggesting that Mondowney and his girlfriend had driven to the apartment where her niece claimed a man had assaulted her. Mondowney's girlfriend reportedly entered the apartment to confront the individual, and upon realizing Mondowney was behind her, she left, after which she heard sounds like firecrackers. Investigators found Lambert on the bedroom floor with gunshot wounds to his head and torso.
Mondowney was subsequently charged with first- and second-degree murder, home invasion, and other related offenses. He was held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center. The legal proceedings that followed saw Mondowney plead guilty to first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and crime of violence on December 14, 2022.
Following victim impact statements from Lambert's parents and siblings, a judge sentenced Milton Mondowney III to life in prison with all but 40 years suspended for the first-degree murder charge. He also received a concurrent sentence of 20 years, with all but five years suspended without the possibility of parole, for the firearm charge. Upon his release, Mondowney will be subject to five years of supervised probation. The Harford County State's Attorney stated that such 'senseless acts of violence' would not be tolerated in the community.
