In the winter of 2014, the community of James Island, South Carolina, was unsettled by a violent crime that ended the life of one of its residents. On the evening of December 13th, 43-year-old Irvin Green was found on Honey Hill Road, having been shot multiple times. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene, and an investigation into his death began immediately.
The news of the shooting sent ripples of concern through the quiet community.
As detectives delved into the case, their attention soon turned to two individuals, Devante Marquez White and Clifford Malcolm Whaley Jr. The investigation uncovered evidence that suggested a connection between the suspects and Green. An affidavit released by the sheriff's office revealed that cell phone records indicated communication between White and Green leading up to the time of the murder. Further examination of phone records showed that White and Whaley had also been in contact with each other both before and after the shooting took place.
Witnesses provided crucial information that placed both White and Whaley in the vicinity of the crime scene around the time of the incident. According to witness statements, Whaley was seen wearing a white t-shirt that appeared to have blood on it. Additionally, White was reportedly seen carrying a distinctive black and white Nike bag that was known to belong to Irvin Green. Based on the compilation of this evidence, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office moved forward with arresting both Devante Marquez White and Clifford Malcolm Whaley Jr. White was subsequently charged with the murder of Irvin Green.
