On January 11, 2015, authorities in Edgefield, South Carolina, responded to a residence on Red Hill Road following reports of a violent incident involving a White female named Patricia Kay Love. The 29-year-old was discovered at the scene suffering from a critical gunshot wound to the head. Emergency responders immediately transported her to the Georgia Regents Medical Center for urgent treatment.
Despite medical intervention, her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced dead two days later on January 13, 2015.
The investigation quickly focused on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which occurred within the home Love shared with her boyfriend, 42-year-old Jody Ray Jones. When deputies arrived at the scene, Jones was present and appeared to be under the influence. He was initially taken into custody and charged with using a firearm while intoxicated.
