Do you know who murdered Mark Cotton? In the early morning hours of a Saturday in west Louisville, a life was tragically cut short. On November 10, 2018, Mark Cotton, a 53-year-old Black male, was found shot in the Russell neighborhood. The discovery was made just after 5:30 a.m. in the 200 block of South 28th Street, near West Market Street.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Mr. Cotton suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite any efforts to assist him, he was pronounced dead at the location.
The Jefferson County Deputy Coroner's office later confirmed that the cause of death was the gunshot wounds he had sustained.
In the wake of the shooting, the Louisville Metro Police Department opened a homicide investigation into the death of Mark Cotton. Investigators began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. However, in the initial stages of the investigation, no immediate arrests were made, and no suspects were publicly identified. The case was listed as an open homicide by the police department, and they appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest, encouraging witnesses or those with knowledge of the crime to come forward. To date, the case remains unsolved.
