In a tragic incident that unfolded in a Myrtle Beach apartment, 14-year-old Anthony Lemay, a male student at Forestbrook Middle School, lost his life on a Sunday evening in early February 2020. The young teen was fatally shot in a residence located in the 500 block of 65th Avenue North. Responding to a call at approximately 5:15 p.m., Myrtle Beach police discovered the grim scene.
Despite initial reports of serious injuries, Anthony Lemay was later pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of Anthony's cousin, Tylor Rogers. According to police reports, Rogers had stolen a handgun from a vehicle earlier that day. Inside the apartment, in what he claimed was an attempt to make the weapon safe, Rogers said he unloaded it. He then pointed the firearm at his cousin and pulled the trigger, resulting in the fatal shot that struck and killed the 14-year-old.
In the wake of the tragedy, Anthony's family remembered him as a good student who didn't need to study much to achieve good grades and a young man who was mature beyond his years. His father, A. Michael Lemay, recalled his son's love for surfing and the joy he found in riding a go-kart. The family expressed immense grief and shock over the loss, describing the week following his death as 'hell.' Community support poured in for the grieving family, with teachers from Forestbrook Middle School reaching out to offer their condolences. Tylor Rogers was taken into custody and faced a murder charge in connection with Anthony Lemay's death.
