On a warm evening in Summerton, South Carolina, the joyous sounds of a graduation party were tragically silenced by a hail of gunfire. It was June 4, 2022, and 32-year-old Audrionna Kind was among the roughly 150 people gathered to celebrate this milestone. The mother of five, known affectionately as 'Tutu,' was enjoying the festivities when two vehicles approached and unleashed a barrage of bullets into the crowd.
In the ensuing chaos, Kind was fatally wounded and seven others, mostly teenagers, were injured.
The senseless act of violence that claimed Audrionna Kind's life was believed to be gang-related, a tragic consequence of ongoing disputes in the area. Investigators recovered between 60 and 70 shell casings at the scene, a testament to the indiscriminate nature of the attack. Kind, described by her family as a 'pure-hearted person' who was devoted to her children, was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire. Her death sent shockwaves through the close-knit community, leaving her loved ones to grapple with an immense and sudden loss.
In the weeks that followed, law enforcement worked diligently to bring those responsible to justice. Their investigation led to the arrests of four suspects: Amontae Daevon Wright, 18; Jaheim Sylvester Billie, 19; Tyrese Amante Brunson, 21; and Demondre Isaiah Dennis, 21. Each of the men faced a litany of serious charges, including one count of murder, eight counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the FBI Gang Task Force, continued to investigate the shooting, indicating that more individuals could be identified and charged.
