Frank J. Ahern, a police officer with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, tragically died on October 10, 1904, following an accidental shooting incident. On September 5, 1904, Officer Ahern was using a patrol call box at the intersection of Euclid and Fountain in the Tenth District when the accident occurred. He threw his nightstick over his shoulder, which struck the hammer of his revolver, causing it to discharge. The bullet struck him in the leg.
