A 75-year-old man, Francis R. Ahern, Jr., passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10th, 2024. Born on April 4th, 1949, in Hartford, he was the son of the late Francis R. Ahern, Sr. and Helen Ahern.
For the last five decades, he dedicated his life to serving the communities of Unionville and Hartford with a high level of dignity and care. His Catholic faith was a sustaining force in his life, and he was a lifelong parishioner and avid supporter of The Cathedral of Saint Joseph.
He took particular joy in supporting the music program at The Cathedral. His sense of civic duty was also demonstrated through his time as a volunteer firefighter with the Tunxis Hose Company No. 1 in his younger years. In recognition of his distinguished support and service to the church, he was honored with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross in the 2019 conferral of Papal Honors.
