On July 3, 2015, in St. Joseph, Missouri, 16-year-old Joseph Johnson committed the murders of his grandparents, James and Beverly Johnson, who had adopted and raised him. The following day, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Joseph was stopped by law enforcement in Platte County for driving a vehicle with switched license plates, an attempt to conceal his identity. This traffic stop led to the discovery of the double homicide.
