On March 23, 2017, 23-year-old Cherkeiray Devonte Jones was fatally shot in the Chollas View area of San Diego. His body was discovered the following morning near Gompers Preparatory Academy by a school janitor raising the flag. The San Diego Police Department responded to the scene, where multiple gunshots had been reported in the area the previous evening.
