In the early morning hours of October 10, 2008, firefighters in Indianapolis, Indiana, were dispatched to a house fire at 3719 East New York Street. The residence was believed to be vacant, but neighbors informed the responders that someone might be inside. Tragically, their fears were realized when the body of a woman was discovered within the charred remains of the home. The victim was later identified as 30-year-old Angela L. Fulcher, a Caucasian female who was approximately six months pregnant at the time of her death.
Investigators quickly determined that the fire was no accident. An accelerant had been used to intentionally set the blaze in an attempt to conceal a more sinister crime. The Marion County Coroner's Office determined that Angela Fulcher's cause of death was not the fire, but rather strangulation. Her death was officially ruled a homicide. Family members, who had lost contact with Angela, reached out to the police after seeing news reports about the fire and the discovery of a body. Less than two weeks later, DNA comparison confirmed the victim's identity.
Angela was laid to rest on October 31, 2008, leaving behind a young daughter, her parents, and the father of her daughter. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no suspects have ever been publicly named in connection with her murder. The case remains an unsolved homicide, one of many cold cases in Marion County.
