Piseth Chhay, a 46-year-old Uber driver from San Francisco, went missing on May 14, 2017, and his disappearance was later ruled a homicide. Chhay's remains were discovered on June 24, 2017, in a warehouse in Hayward, California, connected to Bob Tang, who was a suspect in the case. Tang, also known as "Bob Tov," was an acquaintance of Chhay, and it is believed that Tang killed him out of jealousy after suspecting that Chhay was having an affair with Tang's wife. Tang fled to Cambodia shortly after the crime, and he remains at large to this day.
Chhay’s car was found abandoned at San Francisco International Airport on May 25, 2017, which indicated that foul play might have been involved. After a search involving canine units and a thorough investigation of Tang's warehouse, authorities confirmed Chhay's remains using DNA analysis. The body was found dismembered, and the crime scene was reported as being poorly cleaned up, suggesting that the act was done in haste. Tang allegedly used power tools to dismember the body, drawing comparisons to the fictional character Dexter from the television series of the same name.
Authorities believe that Tang fled to Cambodia where he has dual citizenship, and international law enforcement agencies have been working to locate and apprehend him. The San Francisco Police Department continues to seek information from the public regarding Tang's whereabouts in hopes of bringing justice to Chhay’s family, who were left devastated by his tragic death. Chhay had been married for over 20 years and was the father of two children, which makes this case especially heartbreaking for those close to him.
