Late on the night of Wednesday, November 18, 2020, violence erupted in the Fountain Park neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. The incident occurred in the 700 block of North Euclid Avenue, where 36-year-old Shelby Lamont Spight was in a parking lot situated behind an apartment complex. Around 11:34 p.m., the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department received calls responding to the scene, discovering the male victim on the ground with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the location.
Detectives initiated a homicide investigation, quickly gathering evidence that pointed toward a specific individual. Police were able to locate a suspect shortly after the shooting and took him into custody without further incident. Two days later, on Friday, November 20, authorities announced that charges had been filed in connection with the killing.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged 30-year-old Dewayne Jefferson with involuntary manslaughter, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. The case proceeded with Jefferson held in custody following the swift police response to the fatal encounter behind the residential complex.
