In the winter of 2021, a young life was tragically cut short in St. Louis County, Missouri. Emon Saunders, a 16-year-old male, was found in the passenger seat of a Chrysler sedan that had crashed into a ditch outside of Christian Hospital Northeast on the evening of January 9th. He was suffering from a gunshot wound and was rushed into the hospital in critical condition.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Saunders succumbed to his injuries and passed away the following day, on January 10, 2021.
The investigation into the young man's death quickly revealed that the car crash was not the primary incident. Police determined that Saunders had been shot at a different location, in the 1700 block of El Sabado Drive in the Spanish Lake area of north St. Louis County. It is believed that the driver of the vehicle was attempting to transport him to the hospital for his injuries when they crashed on the hospital's property. Initially, the identity of the driver was unknown to investigators.
As the St. Louis County Police Department's bureau of crimes against persons delved deeper into the case, it was reclassified as a homicide. Their investigation led to the identification and arrest of two suspects in connection with the shooting. Both individuals taken into custody were also 16-year-old males. Following their apprehension, the two teenage suspects were turned over to the St. Louis County Family Courts for legal proceedings. Due to their status as minors, their identities were not publicly released by the authorities.
