Has anyone else been struck by how brave Sheriff Oglesby was, facing armed criminals with no inkling of their violent past? It's devastating to think of him going into that situation perhaps thinking he was simply confronting hobos. The fact that he managed to shoot two of them despite being outnumbered and fatally wounded is a testament to his courage and dedication to his duty. I can't stop thinking about his family, who had to witness his final moments. It makes me wonder how law enforcement coped back then without the advanced protective gear and backup we have today. Such a haunting example of the risks these officers have always faced. My heart goes out to his descendants and the community that must have deeply mourned their loss.
