I’ve been thinking a lot about the unsolved murder of Phyllis Eckert, especially regarding the potential for overlooked eyewitnesses. Given the time that’s passed since that tragic February night in 1988, it makes me wonder about any changes in the witnesses’ willingness to come forward. Maybe new relationships or shifts in personal circumstances could now encourage someone to provide information they were hesitant to share back then? It’s terrifying to think that the perpetrator might have lived so close to her, possibly interacting with Phyllis and the community daily. Someone out there might have seen something—or even heard casual conversations that seemed insignificant at the time but could be crucial now. If anyone here has ties to the Mishawaka area, even if it’s through family stories or connections, it could be worth gently asking around. Sometimes the smallest detail can light up an entire case. Phyllis and those who cared about her deserve closure, and hopefully, by keeping the conversation alive, we can help in some small way.
