I can't stop thinking about the bystander who was caught up in the horrific incident. In that terrifying moment, they managed to call 911 despite being wounded. It must have taken such incredible courage to do so while under immense pressure and fear. My heart truly goes out to them for the trauma they must have faced that day and likely continue to face. It's easy to forget those secondary victims who unintentionally become a part of the narrative, but their bravery deserves recognition too. Sending peace and healing to them and to Trooper Elson's family, friends, and colleagues who endure his loss every day.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of community support in cases like Trooper Cory Elson’s. It's really moving to see how the Decatur community and beyond have come together to honor him through memorials and tributes. It’s one thing to read about it, but for the family and friends attending these ceremonies, I bet it serves as a reminder that Cory’s bravery and sacrifice won't be forgotten. These gestures, like having a road named after him, not only honor him but also show the ongoing appreciation for the risks officers take every day. It may offer some comfort to his loved ones knowing people are still there for them, remembering and respecting his service. Does anyone else feel that these community efforts make a big difference in healing and public awareness?
