I’ve been thinking a lot about the type of person Antonio Lopez Nino was and how much he meant to the Fort Wayne community. It's truly gut-wrenching to consider how a man who dedicated himself to his local shop and the customers around him could be taken from his community in such an unspeakable way. I didn’t know him personally, but from what I’ve read and heard, Nino seemed like the kind of person who really cared about his customers. He ran his business in a neighborhood that could be rough at times, yet he chose to keep his tobacco store on Lafayette Street open, providing a service and a friendly face to countless people. The way the community has rallied in his memory shows just how much of an impact he had. Whether through sharing stories, holding candlelight vigils, or supporting his family, it’s clear that he touched many lives. It’s a stark reminder of the risks small business owners face and what can be taken from us through senseless violence. My heart goes out to his family, especially his daughter Mary Carmen. It's unimaginable to experience such a loss while so young. May his memory continue to inspire and send strength to those who love him.
