I've been following the tragic case at Don Challis Park closely, and my heart goes out to the family of Brandon Cortez-Newton, especially with their compounded losses. I've been thinking a lot about his sister, Rosalina. Can you imagine going through something so terrifying and traumatic at just 17? The emotional and physical scars she must carry now are unimaginable. It’s truly a testament to her strength that she survived and is in stable condition. For all of us in the community, this has been a stark reminder of how quickly and violently things can escalate. I find myself pondering what might've been different if cooler heads had prevailed during that argument. It's deeply unsettling to think that an event meant to honor life turned into such a horrific tragedy. I hope that Rosalina and the other survivors find healing and that the family can lean on the supportive arms of our community during this painful time. My thoughts are with them, and I sincerely hope the investigation soon brings justice and some measure of peace.
