Has anyone dived into the tragic events surrounding Agent Cary Freeman's death in 1922? I was reading about the case and can't help but think about his wife, Hazel. Just 27 days on the job, and she lost him so suddenly and violently. The emotional toll on families of law enforcement officers during Prohibition must have been unimaginable. It's easy to get caught up in the larger story of Prohibition, but I feel we can't overlook the deep personal impact these events had on those left behind. There’s so much bravery involved, not just from the agents themselves, but from their families who endured such uncertainty. Does anyone know what support systems, if any, were in place for widows like Hazel during that era?
