I’ve been thinking a lot about Jeremy Michael Herbstritt and his passion for running. It’s just another layer to the immense loss felt by those who knew him and even those of us learning about him today. Running, for Jeremy, seemed more than a hobby—it was a true devotion. He ran marathons, which says so much about his dedication and how he approached life. In many ways, running is about endurance and pushing past the hardest miles, a reflection of someone who faced challenges head-on. His friends and family often shared stories of his commitment, whether it was studying civil engineering or training for his next race. He exemplified a certain resilience and spirit that I find truly inspiring. As we remember him and the others who lost their lives, it’s crucial to take inspiration from their lives, not just their tragic deaths. Jeremy’s commitment and passion are a reminder of the positive impact people can have on the world around them. Let’s continue to support each other and advocate for changes in campus safety and mental health awareness, making sure his legacy contributes to a safer environment for everyone. My thoughts are with Jeremy's family and friends who continue to feel this loss every day.
