I’ve been following the case of Tushawn "Shawn" Wray Drew for a while now, and something that struck me was the bravery of those two out-of-town visitors who reported the incident to the police. It must have been terrifying for them to witness something so violent, especially in a city they weren’t familiar with. Their quick thinking in flagging down the police supervisor could have been a critical moment in piecing together what happened that night. It's sad knowing Shawn's family had to endure this, but perhaps it’s a small comfort that people who didn’t even know him felt compelled to help bring his killers to justice. I wonder how those witnesses have coped with the trauma of that night, and I hope they know that their actions helped in significant ways. It's a reminder of the community effort needed in solving and drawing attention to cases like this. If anyone else has thoughts or insights about the initial reactions from witnesses, I'd love to hear them.
