I’ve been thinking a lot about the community aspect of Brendon Mackey’s case. It’s so haunting to imagine being there that night, surrounded by families enjoying the fireworks, only to have such a terrible tragedy unfold. I can’t fathom the trauma for his family and all those who witnessed it. It’s become part of why I’m extra cautious and speak out against any form of celebratory gunfire. We often think we’re just one voice, but remembering what happened to Brendon reminds us how important it is to create awareness about the potential consequences of our actions. Every bit of prevention can save lives, and that’s something we all have to take seriously. Hoping for a breakthrough in the investigation someday to bring some semblance of peace to Brendon’s loved ones.
