It's incredibly distressing to think about Jevon Morris and how his story is just one of many during such a violent time in Chicago's history. Reflecting on 2007, it's clear that systemic issues were deeply entrenched, and despite awareness around these problems, communities like West Garfield Park and Englewood seemed trapped in a cycle of hardship. What hits hard is that Jevon was only 20 years old, with so much potential ahead. It’s a stark reminder of the urgency required to address systemic inequities and bolster support for communities through not only policing but community initiatives. We can only hope that sharing Jevon's story pushes for lasting change in these neighborhoods. His life wasn’t just a statistic—it's a call to action for all of us. My heart goes out to his loved ones and everyone in those communities who continues to rally for a safer future.
