I was reading up on Edwin Ivan Chicas's case, and what really strikes me is the fear and trauma his community must have felt. Knowing that the gunfire didn't just take Edwin's life but also hit adjacent homes and a car window shows how dangerous these incidents are for everyone nearby. Even if you don't know Edwin personally, having something like that happen in your neighborhood changes your sense of safety forever. I can't imagine the terror Edwin's mother experienced hearing those shots and then the absolute despair of finding out her son was involved. It's a tragedy for his family and really, for the whole community. I hope for justice in Edwin's case, but I also hope for peace and healing for everyone affected. It just makes you wish there was more we could do to stop this kind of violence.
