I’ve been following Felipe Lopez's case and keep thinking about how community outreach efforts were so desperately needed back in 2008. Knowing the situation in Chicago at the time, it feels like many neighborhoods were left to fend for themselves amid all the violence. It breaks my heart to see a life like Felipe's cut short, especially when considering how different things could have been with more robust community programs and support systems in place. It’s frustrating seeing history repeat itself and communities not getting the resources they need. We need to remember people like Felipe and advocate for change so these tragedies don't keep happening. My thoughts are with his family and everyone else touched by violence during that tumultuous time.
