I’ve been thinking a lot about the role sports played in Joshua’s life and how deeply it connected him to his community. He wasn’t just another player on the Barlett-Yancey High School football team; he was someone who brought energy and camaraderie to the field. Sports often teach us about teamwork, perseverance, and empathy, and Joshua seemed to embody all of those qualities. I can't help but think about the void left on his team and how his peers must feel without his presence. It’s a testament to his character that so many people in the community have rallied around his family, wanting to support them through this unimaginable time. It’s clear that he touched many lives both on and off the field. Seeing how his friends and teammates have stepped up to advocate against gun violence in his memory is both moving and inspiring. It shows that even in the aftermath of such a senseless act, his legacy of good-heartedness and community spirit lives on. I truly hope the awareness being raised saves lives and prevents more families from enduring such pain.
