I've been following the discussion around Victor Ortiz's murder, and it just struck me how the issue of community cooperation—or the lack thereof—is such a recurring theme in these tragic cases. It's deeply saddening to think about the fear that grips many residents, making them hesitant to come forward with information. I mean, I totally get it—safety concerns are very real, and nobody wants to put themselves or their families at risk, but it creates this vicious cycle where justice is so hard to achieve. I feel for Victor's family and friends, because alongside their grief, they have to deal with the frustration of an unsolved case. It's tough to see people who loved Victor miss out on the closure they deserve. I really hope community-based programs can gain more traction and support, building trust with and among residents so that more people feel safe to speak up and help break this cycle. We owe it to Victor and others affected by such senseless violence to keep advocating for change.
