I've been reflecting on Marie "Lizzie" Covington's case and the role that technology played during the entire investigation. It's incredible how vital it was in piecing together evidence and ultimately bringing Gary Morton to justice. From tracking the high-speed chase using traffic cameras to forensic analysis of items found in the SUV, it's clear that advances in tech have become essential in solving crimes like these.
While it's a relief that the technology helped catch the perpetrator, it doesn't make the loss any less severe for her family and friends. They have endured the unimaginable since that tragic day in August 2022, and my heart goes out to them every time I think about their ordeal.
I also can't help but wonder how cases would resolve differently if they didn't have access to these tools. It's a poignant reminder of how hard law enforcement works to solve these cases and the progress we've made, and yet there's always room to reflect on what more can be done to prevent such senseless tragedies.
