Does anyone have more details about the safety measures on the Surland back in 1990? Especially regarding the handling of crab lines? I've been reading about John's disappearance, and it got me wondering how common it was at that time for fishermen to get tangled in lines. Were there any changes to protocols or equipment after his incident to prevent such tragedies in the future? Just trying to understand what conditions were like on those boats back then.
Has anyone looked into the weather conditions on the day John went overboard? I was just reading about how unpredictable the sea can be around that time of year, especially in those northern waters. If the conditions were rough, it might have made search efforts even more challenging. Also, does anyone know if there were any reports of other vessels in the area that could have helped? Just thinking out loud, but maybe someone else out there saw something or even picked up some debris from the Surland.
Hey everyone, just dropping by to share some thoughts about John's case. I've been wondering if the weather conditions played a big role in the search efforts after he went overboard. From what I've read, that area can be pretty unforgiving when it comes to sea state and visibility. Does anyone have any info on what the weather was like around that date? I imagine even a small storm could have made it really tough for the searchers. Just trying to wrap my head around how these searches are planned and carried out in such brutal conditions. Thanks!
