I was reading about President James A. Garfield's tragic end and something that stood out to me was the role of Dr. Doctor Willard Bliss in the whole medical ordeal. It's so sad to think that despite the sincere efforts to save Garfield, the lack of knowledge about sterilization at the time and Dr. Bliss's insistence on using unsterile techniques might have sealed the president's fate. It makes me wonder how Garfield’s outcome could have been different with modern medical practices. The whole ordeal just seems like a cascade of unfortunate events. My heart goes out to Garfield’s family who had to witness his long and painful struggle. It's cases like these that remind us how far we've come in medical science, and yet, how much more we must continue to learn. Thoughts?
