Whenever I delve into the story of Deputy Rybka, I can't stop thinking about the protocols in place at Bergen Pines County Hospital that night. How was it possible for a prisoner with such an extensive criminal record to overpower a trained deputy? Were there any measures that could have been taken to prevent this tragedy? I truly feel for Deputy Rybka's family; losing someone so dedicated and brave must be so overwhelmingly difficult. It makes me think about how essential it is for our system to continually assess and improve security measures to protect those who put their lives on the line for us every day. Keeping Joseph Rybka's family and community in my thoughts.
