I can't stop thinking about the bravery Detective Sczyrek showed in the moments leading up to his tragic death. Just imagining being in his shoes that day at the Essex County Courthouse is overwhelming. He was there fulfilling his duty in a critical trial and still, his life was taken in such a horrifying way. It's chilling to think that the gunman had a clear plan and even used his girlfriend to bypass security meant to protect everyone in that building. I've read that courthouse security has since been reinforced, which is so important to prevent tragedies like this from ever happening again. My thoughts really go out to his family—losing a husband and father like that must be an unimaginable pain. Rest in peace, Detective Sczyrek. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.
