I’ve been reading up on Dawud Hicks' case, and something that stands out to me is how he was such a beacon of hope for Plainfield's youth. From his accomplishments in wrestling to the way people in his community speak about him, it's clear he had a special talent and presence. I can't help but think about the young athletes who looked up to him and how his loss has impacted them. It's so tough to see a life full of potential ended so abruptly. You imagine someone like Hicks going on to inspire more kids, maybe coaching or mentoring, giving back to the same community that cheered for him on those wrestling mats. To think of all the young kids who miss out on having him as an example is just devastating. For those who are from Plainfield or knew him, how have youth sports programs there reacted since his passing? Has there been any initiative in place to help tackle the issues of gun violence, at least at the community level? Would love to know if there’s a silver lining or any positive changes inspired by keeping Dawud’s legacy alive.
