Has anyone looked into the weather conditions the night the Berta J sank? I've been digging around and found some reports indicating a sudden storm hit that area around the same time. It makes me wonder how prepared Michael and John were for such conditions. Did they have updated weather technology on board, or were they relying on older equipment? I can't imagine what went through their minds out there. Has anyone else come across information about the vessel's layout or safety equipment? It could offer some clues about their chances of survival in such a scenario.
Has anyone looked into the safety record of the Berta J before the incident with Michael and John Spear? I've been trying to find any info on past issues or if their equipment had any known problems. It's concerning that something went wrong so far out at sea. If anyone has details on previous trips or any reports about the vessel, it might help piece together what was happening on board that day.
Anyone have more info on the emergency procedures for vessels like the Berta J? With Michael and John Spear going missing after it sank 50 nautical miles south of Yakutat, I've been really curious about how these fishing boats are typically equipped to handle emergencies. Are there protocols for deploying life rafts or sending distress signals? It's just baffling that a ship can be out there, and when something goes wrong, it seems like there's so little chance for survival. I'm hoping someone might have insight into what these crews are supposed to do, especially when they’re so far from shore.
