Has anyone else noticed the lack of media attention around Elease Farmer's case? It's really troubling how little information there is available, especially considering she disappeared from a major city like NYC. I can't help but wonder if the systemic issues of the time, particularly the underreporting of cases involving young African American females in the 90s, played a part in why we know so little about her today.
I did a deep dive trying to find anything—old newspaper clippings, reports, family pleas—but came up almost empty-handed. I understand that she was only added to NamUs decades later, which is hopefully a step in the right direction, but it just shows how many of these cases get lost in the shuffle.
It’s frustrating, and I truly hope more awareness can be raised. If anyone has tips on how to dig deeper into these older cases or archives, I'd love to hear your suggestions. We can't let these stories fade into the background.
Hey everyone, I stumbled across the case of Elease Farmer recently and was struck by how little information there is available. It's baffling to me how someone can just vanish, and yet there's barely any media attention or public awareness surrounding her disappearance. I think about the early '90s and how many young African American girls' cases were neglected. It's frustrating that it took so long for Elease to be added to NamUs.
I can't help but wonder if anyone has ever come forward with even the smallest clue or if there are witnesses who might have seen her that day in New York City. The lack of photos makes it even harder to keep her memory alive in the public eye. It makes me hope that with all the true crime enthusiasts out there now, we might finally get some new eyes on her case. If there's anything we can do, maybe it's continuing to talk about Elease and sharing her story whenever possible. Thoughts?
