I came across something compelling while digging into the case of Latrena May. It seems like Andre Higgs had a pretty extensive criminal record, and I'm curious about how someone with such a background was still able to be close to her and their child. From what I've read, he'd been convicted of unlawful possession of a gun and aggravated assault before this tragedy. It makes me wonder about the systems in place that are meant to protect victims of domestic violence. What more could have been done? Maybe it's just me, but it feels like there were several red flags that should have kept him away. My heart goes out to Latrena's family and especially her child, who lost a mother in such a horrific way. How can we better protect those in vulnerable situations when the warning signs are clearly there?
I've been thinking about the impact this tragedy has had on the community, especially at Pride Academy Charter School. It's just unimaginable to lose such a dedicated teacher in such a senseless way. Latrena May not only touched the lives of her students but also inspired fellow educators with her passion and commitment. I can't help but wonder how the school and her students have coped since that terrible day. Schools are supposed to be places of safety and learning, and to have someone like Ms. May taken from them is just so difficult to fathom. My heart goes out to everyone affected, especially her students who must have felt her loss so keenly. How do you even begin to process something like this? It really makes me hope that communities will rally together for more support mechanisms for both teachers and students facing such unimaginable loss.
