I recently came across a mention of the vigil held in memory of sweet Kamrie Heeren-Dantzler and the other victims back in 2011. It’s heartwarming to see how the community came together in their time of unimaginable sorrow. Kamrie was described by her teachers and friends as a bright star, always curious and eager to learn. Can you imagine how much more she could have brought to this world? From what I've read, camping with her grandparents were some of her happiest memories. It's utterly devastating that such an innocent joy was stolen from her. The strength and unity shown by Grand Rapids during that dark period are commendable, but I can't help thinking about the huge gap left in the lives of her surviving classmates and friends. May we all continue to share Kamrie's story, keeping her spirit alive in our hearts. If anyone from the area is reading this, do you remember how any specific support systems were set up for Kamrie’s classmates or any memorials in her school? It would be great to hear how these efforts helped heal the community.
