I’ve been thinking about Angel Alvarez today. I didn’t know him personally, but the impact of his death still hits me. I’ve been reading about how dedicated he was to his community and family, and it breaks my heart that such potential was cut short. Angel was more than just a number in the rising crime statistics; he was someone’s son, friend, and potentially a future leader. It’s stories like his that remind us all of the very real faces behind these tragedies. I wonder if there’s more we can do to honor his life beyond just remembering him. Do any locals know of initiatives or programs in Chicago that have been set up in his memory or to combat gun violence in his neighborhood? It feels like we owe it to Angel and so many others to push for meaningful change. Thoughts?
