I've been reading up on the Vongsa case from the F/V 'Westpoint' incident, and something that's been on my mind is the harsh weather conditions in the Bering Sea around the time of the disappearance. From what I understand, that area can experience intense storms with high winds and waves, especially in the winter months. Does anyone know if there were reports of particularly bad weather on the day Vongsa fell overboard? I can't help but wonder if the conditions might have contributed to the challenges in searching for him. Also, are there protocols in place for search and rescue in such extreme environments? It seems like a daunting task given the vastness and the unpredictability of the sea in those regions.
Hey everyone, I’ve been following the case of the missing fisherman, Vongsa, who fell overboard from the F/V 'Westpoint' in the Bering Sea and I can't stop thinking about the conditions out there. I mean, has anyone else looked into how bad the weather has been in that area around the time he went missing? It's known to be rough waters, but I wonder if there were any specific weather alerts or warnings around that time. Being 30 miles southeast of St. George Island is incredibly remote, and with such unpredictable weather patterns, I've read that it can drastically impact search efforts. Any insights or resources about the weather conditions in that part of the Bering Sea would be super helpful in understanding what might have happened. Thanks!
